Social Media has become indispensable for all communication activities. For public institutions, it has been proven being a helpful tool to reach their target group directly, without any intermediaries. However, it can be difficult to stand out and really capture the user’s attention. Furthermore, communication departments are often required to operate under strict budget restraints with regards to their social media presence. Additionally, they often face sceptical upper management and strict hierarchical structures, which stand in contrast to the fast-paced nature of social media. Social media experts might not yet be able to exploit the maximum potential, especially when it comes to using the technical possibilities of social media. In order to improve the efficiency and quality of their social media activities, responsible persons need to monitor, measure and manage the performance and impact of their social media campaigns.
